Job Summary

The primary role of the Design & Drafting Engineer is to create technical drawings and models of products, machines, and structures using CAD & CAE programs.

Responsibilities

The Drafting & Design Engineer is responsible for:

Supporting the design of new products.
Supporting the design of new equipment.
Supporting the design of equipment modifications.
Supporting the design of production fixtures, gauges, and jigs.
Supporting the design of molds and mold components.
Outlining recommended production methods to support building functional, cost-effective, and well-designed products.
Preparing and creating rough sketches for presentation of designs to machinists and leadership.
Generating detailed designs with computer-aided design software.
Identifying structural concerns and proposing improvements to form, fit, and function of products and equipment.
Calculating dimensions and weights using various materials.
Calculating material and equipment requirements.
Generating diagrams, maps, and layouts to illustrate flow.
Ensuring all designs meet Pneu-Dart quality standards.
Generating and tracking Engineering Change Requests (ECRs).
Generating and maintaining quality drawings and templates, ensuring accuracy of the same.
Maintaining 5S file structure while ensuring the security protocols which protect proprietary company information.
Maintaining drawings used in material / part procurement and ensure accuracy of the same.
Creating and maintaining Quality Control documents, providing QC Liaison with ECR updates.
Accountabilities

Learn products, manufacturing processes, service policies, and the research/science behind Pneu-Dart products. Specifically, learning RDD and RDD Projector design and assembly will be of primary importance.
Work closely with existing Team Members to help finalize or create part designs.
Assess the outcome of projects and continually recommending improvements.
Comply with all safety, quality, and work rules and regulation.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Demonstrated success and knowledge in the following areas:

Strong Mechanical Aptitude
Strong mathematical skills.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to utilize Microsoft Office applications. Inherent attention to detail.
Strong problem-solving skills related to manufacturing and maintenance.
Knowledge and understanding of Continuous Improvement methods and practices.
Root Cause Analysis skills.
Ability to use measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers of all types, and vision engineering software.
Ability to utilize SolidWorks to create and modify parts files as well as create technical drawings that include bill of materials. These files will be used for creation and assembly of machines and other mechanical equipment.
Ability to manage commitments and time by prioritizing and communicating focus topics.
Motivated and capable to learn new things, independently.
Education & Experience

Associate Degree in Drafting & Design or 1-3 years’ work experience in related field.
Mental & Physical Requirements

In order to carry out the responsibilities of this position, the following mental and physical requirements are necessary:

Critical thinking skills.
A desire to improve processes and the ability to take ownership of activities.
Ability to anticipate and communicate discrepancies.
Physical activity from working with equipment during setup and maintenance. Ability to sit, stand, walk, and kneel.  Ability to lift / carry up to 50 pounds.
9-hour workdays will occasionally be required, based on business needs.
Compensation & Benefit Considerations

PDI offers all Team Members a comprehensive wage and benefit plan as well as a positive and family-centered work environment. The following items will be provided as compensation and benefits for this position.

Base Pay and Benefits

Wage compensation, commensurate with experience, will be provided
All benefits of full-time employment including medical, dental and vision insurance for the employee and dependents is available. Benefits are provided in compliance with the company’s Summary Plan Description. Contribution rates for team members and dependents are determined annually. The benefit waiting period is 60-days.
Participation in PDI’s 401(k) retirement plan with up to a 4% match of the team member’s gross income. The benefit waiting period is 12 months.
PTO accrual of 128 hours per year, with accelerated accruals at various levels of tenure
9 Paid Holidays per year, in addition to a paid holiday to celebrate your Birthday after 1 Year
Variable Compensation

Participation in the company’s Team Incentive Plan (TIP), which rewards members of the company for meeting or exceeding quality shipping targets as a prorated portion of base compensation. The compensation waiting period is fifteen months.
