Job Description

Stern Pinball is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to work as a member in our Engineering Group with the ability to:

Job Summary:

  • Work as a member of the Mechanical Engineering Group.
  • Execute VAVE studies to identify opportunities for cost reduction, design simplification, and product value enhancement.
  • Design and engineer mechanical devices and systems with a focus on manufacturing efficiency and material optimization.
  • Present new technologies and ideas to design teams in support of new game features.
  • Design, document, and coordinate prototype builds from initial concept throughout the product development cycle.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot mechanical devices and systems as required.
  • Work with internal development teams, procurement personnel, vendors, and manufacturing personnel in support of product designs

Job Knowledge:

  • Strong background in VAVE methodologies, including functional analysis, cost modeling, and competitive benchmarking.
  • Broad knowledge of materials, fabrication, and manufacturing methods.
  • Ability to design electromechanical devices, including mechanisms, motor and solenoid drives, and parts in a variety of materials including plastics processes, metals & wood.
  • Understanding of sensor systems, supporting electronics and illumination components.
  • 2+ years of experience in the Mechanical Engineering field..

Specific Job Functions:

  • Work as a member of a team including game designers, software engineers, electrical engineers, artists and technicians to create state-of-the-art pinball games.
  • Design of electro-mechanical components and devices in support of the creative vision for the game. Create performance specifications, manufacturing, and service requirements.
  • Demonstrated skill in the design of components in a variety of processes, including sheet metal, injection molded and thermo-formed plastics, screw machine parts, and machined components.
  • Conduct cross-functional VAVE workshops to drive continuous improvement and cost-out strategies across product lines.
  • Analyze existing designs for “Design for Manufacturability and Assembly” (DFMA) improvements to reduce labor and material costs.
  • Create 3D models, drawings and engineering documents; SolidWorks proficiency is required.
  • Responsible for engineering documents and engineering change documents.
  • Follows designs from concept through production. Including support for manufacturing, QA, technical service, compliance, certification, and durability testing.
  • Perform other tasks as directed by the Director of Mechanical Engineering.
  • Conduct lab tests and measurements to support design requirements.

Knowledge, skills & abilities:

  • Self-starter.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Work well in a team environment.
  • Have proficiency in mechanical engineering and prototyping.
  • Be proficient with Solidworks CAD tools.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools.
  • Proficient with mechanical measurement tools, hand tools and model shop equipment.
  • Communicate effectively in writing and verbally.

Education:

BSME from an accredited institution or equivalent experience.

Requirements:

  • Depth perception, ability to see small parts, use of close vision.
  • Use of fine and coarse motor skills to lift, position and assemble prototypes.
  • Some lifting of game components such as playfields and back boxes, may require bending and working in various positions.
  • Must be capable of lifting assemblies and parts weighing 50 lbs. to shoulder height.

The work requires in-person participation in a team environment at the company’s product development studio in Elk Grove Village.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,000.00 – $110,000.00 per year

Experience:

  • Mechanical engineering: 2 years (Required)
