Job Description

SCI Machinery is looking for an energetic, curious, and creative Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in designing and building the next generation of industrial machinery. <Duties>

  • Creating detailed product designs and manufacturing drawings using 2D drafting and 3D modeling software (Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, and MasterCAM)
  • Collaborating with customers and other staff to ensure design specifications meet requirements
  • Developing prototypes and conducting testing to improve product performance
  • Preparing technical illustrations and documentation for manufacturing and production processes
  • Staying current with industry trends and design tools to improve product quality
  • Knowledge of industry standards like GD&T and ASME codes.
  • Modernize existing products and designs to improve reliability and performance and integrate new technologies.
  • Support manufacturing by providing drafting support, overseeing CNC machining processes, and ensuring designs adhere to industry standards.
  • Lead project scheduling efforts to ensure the timely delivery of design milestones while managing multiple projects simultaneously.

<Skills>

  • Proficiency in CAD tools such as AutoCAD, Inventor, and MasterCAM for detailed mechanical modeling and drafting.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including mechanics, thermodynamics, and material science.
  • Experience with GD&T standards for precise communication of engineering tolerances.
  • Knowledge of ASME codes & standards relevant to pressure vessels, piping, or mechanical components.
  • Ability to perform root cause analysis to troubleshoot design or manufacturing issues effectively.
  • Familiarity with system design involving programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
  • Experience with manufacturing processes, including CNC machining and prototyping techniques.
  • Experience with industrial machinery, textiles, or converting is beneficial.
