Full-Time Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Description

We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer with 1–3 years of experience to join our product development team.

This is a hands-on engineering position focused on designing real products. You will work on a variety of new product development projects involving electronics, IoT devices, wireless products, industrial equipment, automotive products, sensors, tracking devices, and other custom electronic systems.

The ideal candidate has strong SolidWorks skills and enjoys turning product concepts, sketches, PCBs, batteries, connectors, sensors, and other components into practical mechanical designs that can be prototyped and manufactured.

You will work closely with electrical, PCB, firmware, manufacturing, and product development engineers throughout the design process.

Responsibilities

  • Develop 3D mechanical designs and assemblies using SolidWorks.
  • Design plastic enclosures, housings, brackets, mounting systems, internal structures, and other mechanical components.
  • Create mechanical designs around PCBs, batteries, displays, antennas, connectors, sensors, buttons, cables, and other electronic components.
  • Convert product concepts, sketches, and requirements into practical mechanical designs.
  • Create detailed 2D manufacturing drawings from 3D models.
  • Design parts for 3D printing, CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, and injection molding.
  • Select appropriate materials, fasteners, inserts, seals, gaskets, and other mechanical hardware.
  • Apply appropriate tolerances, fits, clearances, and basic GD&T where required.
  • Design products with consideration for assembly, serviceability, durability, cost, and manufacturability.
  • Build and evaluate prototypes and make design changes based on testing and feedback.
  • Work closely with electrical and PCB engineers to ensure proper mechanical integration of electronics.
  • Review prototype parts and identify dimensional, fit, assembly, or manufacturing issues.
  • Work with prototype shops and manufacturing vendors to resolve mechanical design questions.
  • Maintain organized SolidWorks models, assemblies, drawings, and design revisions.
  • Support projects from early concept development through prototype and production.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field.
  • 1–3 years of mechanical design or product development experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of SolidWorks, including parts, assemblies, and engineering drawings.
  • Good understanding of mechanical design fundamentals, tolerances, fits, fasteners, and material selection.
  • Experience designing mechanical parts or enclosures for electronic products is preferred.
  • Familiarity with 3D printing and rapid prototyping.
  • Basic understanding of CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, and injection molding.
  • Ability to read component drawings, datasheets, and mechanical specifications.
  • Comfortable using calipers and other basic measurement tools.
  • Ability to take a design from a rough concept to a detailed 3D model and prototype.
  • Good problem-solving skills and attention to mechanical details.
  • Ability to work on multiple product development projects with different requirements and timelines.
  • Good communication skills and willingness to work closely with engineers from other disciplines.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys designing and building products.

You should be comfortable starting with a PCB, component datasheets, product requirements, sketches, or an early concept and developing the mechanical design around them.

The projects vary significantly. One project may involve a small battery-powered electronic device, while another may involve an automotive product, industrial enclosure, wireless sensor, tracking device, medical product, or larger electromechanical system.

This position is a good fit for an engineer who wants broad product development experience rather than working on the same type of mechanical design every day.

Strong SolidWorks skills and practical product design experience are especially important for this position.
