Job Summary/Purpose:
The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for developing, improving, and optimizing manufacturing processes to ensure efficient, safe, and cost‑effective production. This role focuses on equipment performance, workflow design, capacity improvement, and continuous improvement initiatives across the production system. The engineer will collaborate closely with production, maintenance, quality, and supply chain teams to support operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities/Duties:
  • Manufacturing Processes & System Design
    • Develop, improve, and document manufacturing processes to ensure high productivity and consistent quality.
    • Design, optimize, and implement production systems, material flow paths, and workstation layouts using lean manufacturing principles.
    • Conduct detailed time studies and create standard work to improve labor productivity and process repeatability.
  • Equipment & Maintenance Support
    • Partner with maintenance teams to ensure equipment reliability and preventive maintenance alignment with production needs.
    • Prepare and evaluate capital investment proposals for new machinery, tooling, and automation solutions.
    • Lead installation, commissioning, and validation of new equipment, ensuring it meets safety, quality, and performance targets.
  • Capacity & Throughput Optimization
    • Analyze and calculate production capacity, identifying constraints or bottlenecks that limit throughput.
    • Develop and execute plans to eliminate constraints through process changes, equipment improvements, or layout enhancements.
    • Conduct machine efficiency studies and recommend adjustments to improve uptime, throughput, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
  • Performance Measurement & Continuous Improvement
    • Establish, track, and report on efficiency KPIs, including cycle time, scrap rate, productivity, and equipment utilization.
    • Identify improvement opportunities and lead kaizen, lean, and Six Sigma initiatives.
    • Implement solutions that enhance safety, reduce waste, and improve overall operational performance.
  • Material Flow & Production Support
    • Evaluate and optimize material flow to improve line balance, reduce handling, and support just‑in‑time production.
    • Support daily operations by troubleshooting process issues, performing root‑cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on quality improvements, new product launches, and engineering changes.
Required Qualifications/Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
  • 5–10 years of experience in a manufacturing engineering role within a production environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in:
    • Time studies and standard work development
    • Capacity analysis and bottleneck identification
    • Equipment efficiency and OEE improvement
    • Material flow and production system design
    • Continuous improvement methodology (Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen)
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools, process mapping, and industrial engineering methods.
  • Experience preparing and justifying capital equipment investments.
Preferred Qualification:
  • Lean Six Sigma certification.
  • Experience in automation, robotics, CNC machining, or high‑volume manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with ERP/MES systems and digital manufacturing tools.
Competencies/Skills:
  • Continuous Improvement Mindset
  • Technical Problem Solving
  • Cross‑Functional Collaboration
  • Project Management
  • Strong Communication Skills
Technology and Equipment:
  • CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for layouts and tooling.
  • Time‑study tools and industrial engineering software.
  • ERP/MES systems for routings, capacity, and production data.
  • Machine efficiency and OEE tracking tools.
  • Common shop‑floor equipment (CNC, automation, assembly/welding/fabrication equipment as applicable).
  • Measurement tools: calipers, gauges, micrometers.
  • PPE and safety systems (LOTO, machine guarding).
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
  • Split between office and production floor environments.
  • Exposure to noise, moving machinery, heat, and standard manufacturing conditions.
  • May work occasional off‑shift hours to support production or equipment installs.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move through the plant for extended periods.
  • Occasional bending, reaching, climbing stairs/ladders.
  • Ability to lift 25–35 lbs occasionally.
