Key Deliverables
This Engineering position will be held accountable for designing next generation motorcycle architectures:

– Establish design inputs through benchmarking and predictive methods for a vehicle and/or vehicle platform (geometry, mass distribution, acceleration & deceleration, ride & handling, ergonomics, energy consumption, etc.).
– Mitigate technical risk by delivering CAD assemblies of complete motorcycles containing basic design and analysis of vehicle systems and interfaces.
– Exhibit new vehicle architectures and bundled innovation projects in proof of concept demonstrators.
– Continuously improve existing and/or create new vehicle architecture and integration processes for Engineering.

Candidates for this innovative role should have certain personal attributes that foster creativity, exploration, and drive for results:
– Ambidextrous approach (ability to switch, at will when necessary, between an efficient/operational mindset and an experimental/ambiguous mindset)
– Future vision and orientation
– Curiosity with a practical orientation
– Desire for creative realization
– Outcome-oriented motivation
– Empathy with and support of the adopter
– Sense of humility
– Tolerance for ambiguity

Education Required:
– The position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical degree. Master’s Degree in Engineering is preferred.

Experience Required:
– 8+ years of product delivery experience with a focus on vehicle architecture development and vehicle integration. Complementing experience, the level of this role is based on proficiency in the following skill sets.
o Foundational Knowledge
 Engineering Calculations – Considered an engineering expert and has deep knowledge of the theory that engineering calculations are based on. Applies graduate-level engineering concepts to develop calculations that give H-D a competitive advantage in product development. Develops spreadsheets or equation-based programs that are considered best practice for the design and analysis community and regularly mentors others on their use (vehicle stiffness, bolted joints, braking, gear ratios, flow, fatigue, dynamics, etc.)
o Design Inputs
 Requirements Management – Has demonstrated proficiency in cascading customer inputs into measurable vehicle level requirements that drives design of a component or system. Has demonstrated the ability to create set-based design alternatives and describe tradeoffs among conflicting requirements. Has demonstrated the use of competitive benchmarking for creating informed vehicle requirements.
o Conceptual Design –
 CAD Vehicle Assembly – Has demonstrated high proficiency in Creo Parametric modeling of complex parts and creation and manipulation of large assemblies. Utilizes the CAD vehicle assembly to develop the kinematics, energy absorption, and mass distribution of vehicles.
 System Integration & Packaging – Has demonstrated high proficiency at integrating complex systems for an optimized vehicle through CAD packaging and alternative design tradeoff studies.
o Analysis & Optimization
 Vehicle Performance Modeling – Has demonstrated proficiency in utilizing a variety of tools to predict vehicle performance for the sizing of systems, optimization between systems, and prescription of vehicle architecture alternatives (i.e. acceleration & deceleration, ride & handling).
 Vehicle Weight & Inertia Management – Has demonstrated proficiency in developing tools and techniques for tracking and evaluating vehicle weight and inertia by system. Has created analysis ready mass property reports for complete vehicles and leveraged that data for product decisions. Has prescribed system weight and inertia targets that support the overall vehicle weight and inertia budget.
o Refinement & Finalization –
 System and Vehicle Tolerance Analysis – Has executed clean sheet drawing datum structures and dimensioning schemes. Has conducted multiple part/system tolerance stacks using both straight and RSS stack up methods. Understands general inspection methods and how GD&T callouts can communicate functionality and feature importance.
 Design for Assembly (DFA) – Experienced in designing parts for assembly. Regularly develops designs that are easy and efficient to assemble correctly, difficult to assemble incorrectly, and accommodate the needs of the assembly operator and specific assembly line or station. Track record of results that meet or exceed project objectives for ease of assembly, EJMS score, quality, cost, complexity and project timing.
