Full-Time Senior Product Designer, Solidworks

Job Description

A Senior Product Designer must be able to create a range of simple to complex 3D CAD models, accurate 2D Prints for new and existing products that meet the Customer and Vantage requirements. This is a hybrid role for on-site in Standish, MI, and remote from home. Two to three days per week on-site are required.
Duties/Responsibilities
  • Create 3D conceptual designs & 2D prints for various thermoformed products – within a reasonable time frame.
  • On occasion, create 3D conceptual designs & 2D prints for various injection mold products.
  • Create prototype-intent 3D models and corresponding tooling files for suppliers.
  • Create SolidWorks 3D CAD training tooling fixtures for product processing.
  • Work with Project Engineers to write up changes to a prototype/production tool; update 3D CAD & prints accordingly.
  • Work with management to identify areas of improvement; set & reach company rocks/goals.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, & safe working environment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Knowledge & proficiency in SolidWorks or an equivalent 3D parametric modelling software
  • Create, acquire, analyze, or interpret information in a logical manner & then translate that into 3D CAD models that can also easily be picked up by another team member.
  • Computer proficiency, attention to detail, good work ethic, and able to troubleshoot problems.
  • Understand both English & Metric systems of measurement
  • On occasion, be able to use measuring tools such as tape measure, calipers, protractors, dividers, & scales (not an exhaustive list)
  • Ability to read & understand engineering drawings, have advanced math skills.
  • Able to work as part of a team, work under pressure, or in a high level of stress.
  • Ability to work with “gray” areas and deliver results to deliver unique and robust solutions.
  • Skills, track record of results, and engineering methodologies/experience.
  • Understanding of design tools such as DMA, DFM, and DFMEA.
  • Ability to travel as needed (est. 5-10% maximum).
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
  • On-Time Delivery: Percentage of projects completed on or before the scheduled deadline.
  • Design Efficiency: Minimizing the number of design revisions before finalization.
  • Customer Satisfaction: Feedback from internal stakeholders or end-users regarding the quality of designs.
  • Collaboration Effectiveness: Assessment of how well the designer collaborates with cross-functional teams.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field preferred. In lieu of a degree 4-8 years of experience in manufacturing-based product design / development will be considered.
  • 6 years of Product Designer Experience, required.
  • Certified 3D Experience SolidWorks Professional training, preferred.
  • Ability to convert between software, working knowledge of other systems, preferred.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • None.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to work in noisy environments.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
