What You Will Do:

  • You will conceptualize, design, integrate, and document mechanical-focused hardware using computer-aided design, mechanical analyses, and consistent coordination and communication across teams to ensure successful hardware performance.
  • Application of design for manufacturing and assembly best practices will be a critical skill set to be successful in this position. You may also include leading teams in the completion of the above tasks.
  • Work with technical engineers to propose, design, develop, integrate, and document complex detailed designs and large assemblies within the mechanical design department.
  • Communicate with cross-functional engineering team members and suppliers to design, model, and document the design technical data package (TDP) and its capabilities and compliance with requirements to peers, leadership (ERB/CCB), and customers.
  • Work under limited supervision and act as the responsible design authority
  • Perform work in proprietary spaces may be required based on program assignment.
  • Some travel may be required to meet and work with vendors and to support testing and other activities as needed.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires: A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
  • Experience in mechanical design drafting and/or development preferably of defense-related components or systems
  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), tolerance analyses, and/or drawing practices and interpretation (ASME Y-14.5) for mechanical hardware
  • Experience with Computer-aided Design (CAD) experience in Creo Parametric was called ProE and/or Windchill/Common PDM
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government-issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • 8+ years of experience in mechanical design, development, and/or test, preferably of defense-related components or systems
  • Experience in airframe development, electronics packaging, mechanisms, for missiles or similar applications
  • Understanding and experience with manufacturing techniques and assembly best practices
  • Understanding of military specifications and industry design standards
  • Experience with effective communication (written and verbal) during collaboration with others to document design actions and results, to perform trade studies, and to communicate to program management and customers through presentations and reports

‒ Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.

RTX anticipates the application window closing approximately 40 days from the date the notice was posted. However, factors such as candidate flow and business necessity may require RTX to shorten or extend the application window.

The salary range for this role is 82,000 USD – 164,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good-faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
