Summary: Support the manufacture and processes development for silicone and thermoset molding for medical and aerospace cables. This support is provided by leading several activities such as development of new manufacturing processes and optimization of current manufacturing processes relating to Potting, Molding, & Encapsulation. Provide guidance and assistance to Manufacturing Technicians and fellow Engineers for higher-level applications and lead problem-solving and continuous-improvement activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

•Provide primary engineering support for production with the development of engineering documentation relating to Potting, Molding, & Encapsulation (PM&E).

•Lead the development and improvement of key production processes relating to molding, potting, and fixture fabrication.

•Support Manufacturing Engineering feedback to Product & Design Engineering in support of manufacturing activities related to PM&E.

•Coordinate, support and create production fixtures, molds, custom tools, and manufacturing instructions to facilitate production efficiency and control.

•Assist in setting up and sustainment of production flow in both cells and batch lines by coordinating time studies and definition of structured work flow.

•Evaluate and propose acquisition of new tools, equipment and processes to aid in production efficiency and safety.

•Analyze internal manufacturing performance metrics to identify and resolve manufacturing and business process problems.

•Interact directly with the customer engineering on manufacturing-related topics.

•Perform analysis of internal production performance metrics for reporting and discussion in internal and external meetings.

•Provide leadership and direction to the Manufacturing Engineering Technicians and Engineers related to PM&E.

•Assist with the research for new technology as well as industry proven epoxies (ambient/UV light/heat cure), material specific adhesives, solvents, mold compounds, and other specialty items required to support new product development in the Medical Autoclaveable and Non-Autoclaveable environment.

•Trial new materials in a documented manner such as a Verification Protocol, or Validation Protocol if required.

•Experience with Instron 3365 or other available test equipment to measure strength of the bond.

•Perform and document the results of Life-Cycle Verification Testing, or Validation Testing if required using the Autoclave, Sterrad 100NX, Dishwasher, or other means of Life-Cycle Testing.

•Work with Procurement and outside vendors from approved Carlisle distributors (Loctite, Fralock, etc.) to bring in materials that provide solutions.

•Willing to attend industry conferences or education seminars to keep well-informed of new technology and available special applications.

•Provide New Product Development Engineers with performance data, epoxy/adhesive materials, and Verification or Validation (if required) reports for implementing new materials and adhesives into the Medical & Aerospace product lines.

•Possess a desire to solve problems the correct way no matter how long it takes, have a positive attitude and open mind, and be able to handle a challenging environment and still provide quality results.

•Have a clear understanding of chemistry and the health and safety hazards surrounding potentially blending adhesives and solvents.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

•Other duties as required in support of the department and company.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:
B.S. Electrical Engineering, B.S. Mechanical Engineering, B.S. Manufacturing Engineering, B.S. Industrial Engineering, or equivalent and/or 5-10 years of experience in a similar position. Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a materials/potting engineer in a Medical/ Aerospace cable assembly design environment required. Minimum of 3-5 years of high pressure injection molding experience in medical and/or aerospace environment required; Experience with both thermoset and thermoplastic materials preferred.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Effectively communicate with all levels of personnel.

•Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks in a high pace and responsive environment.

•Able to lead cross-functional teams’ efforts and manage internal projects.

•Able to work in a fast-pace, ambiguous, rapidly changing environment.

•Excellent personal computing skills, particularly Microsoft Office.
Experience with AutoCAD, Catia(V4/V5), Pro Engineer Wildfire or CREO and/or SolidWorks. Experience analyzing mold designs with Moldflow preferred.
•Highly adept with technical engineering drawings, specifications and other engineering documentation.

•Engel and Morgan press experience preferred.
