MGA Entertainment is searching for a Mechanical Engineer who will be focused on our hover boards, scooters and more!

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to provide expertise throughout all stages of product development. Reporting to the Manager of Product Development Engineering, the Product Development Engineer will work with Marketing and Design to help evaluate the feasibility of new product concepts from an engineering perspective. This role will shape the construction and internal mechanisms of our toys in accordance with functional definitions set forth by Marketing and Design. In addition to feature and performance objectives, the Engineering Intern must also keep in mind design for manufacturability, durability, quality and safety requirements, costing, and scheduling.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Mechanical Direction: Advises design team on most effective way to mechanically achieve the desired function of concepts, keeping cost and schedule in mind.Will provide CAD or sketches where needed to communicate mechanism idea.
  • Troubleshooting and Problem Solving: On a daily basis advises effective solutions to product issues (function, safety, product integrity, etc.), keeping cost and schedule in mind.
  • Early Prototyping: To prove out any unique mechanical features that have never been implemented in a toy before. Will work with domestic model shops on higher complexity items.
  • Initial Cost Estimates (ICE). Provides detailed cost estimates of concepts to see if they are within target cost. Steers the concepts towards the desired target without eliminating key features.
  • Bid packages: Develops a detailed document with all design, engineering, packaging, and electronic specifications clearly defined for quote and to kick off product development.
  • Critical Issue ID: Leads a project review with team to address all QA, safety, reliability, and functional concerns prior to starting the tooling model.
  • Coordination with HK Engineering and Asia Factories: This includes regular discussion via email, weekly videoconferences, and tracking revisions via issues sheet documents.
  • CAD Review: Inspects updated CAD from model makers and factories to ensure revisions have been implemented. Double checks CAD to make sure unwanted changes have not been implemented.
  • Kid Testing & Parent Testing: To evaluate ergonomics, difficulty of use, further feedback to improve product.
  • Electronics Development: For projects with electronics and audio, coordinates with Electronics Engineer and external content team to develop a program flow chart, chip spec, and audio content. Will review product against the flowchart to ensure programming is correct.
  • Smartsheet: Updates all product information in Smartsheet on a regular basis
  • Sharepoint: Ensures key project files are updated and organized to the Sharepoint project folders: CAD, spec sheets, bid packages, etc.
  • Tooling Model Review
  • EP Review
  • FEP Review
  • PP Review
  • Consumer Feedback: Advises corrective actions based on any negative online reviews or consumer service calls after product has launched.

Qualifications:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in a toy or consumer product related field.
  • Highly creative yet technically minded
  • Knowledge of injection molding and manufacturing processes a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide strong leadership to drive innovative and cost-effective design solutions.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, especially with other disciplines outside of engineering: design, marketing, legal, etc.
  • Highly organized and able to multi-task and prioritize competing demands
  • Demonstrates a “hands-on” team approach to solving problems
  • Experience with SolidWorks or ProEngineer
