Full-Time Mechanical Design Engineer for Precision Machine Development

Job Description/Preferred Qualifications

We are seeking an experienced mechanical design engineer with precision machine design expertise to join our team. This role involves using engineering fundamentals to drive conceptual and detailed design, manage large assemblies, and perform feasibility studies. The ideal candidate will have experience with CAD software, PDM systems, and finite element analysis.
• CAD mechanical design using CREO, Solidworks
• Perform feasibility studies
• Manage large assemblies and system layouts using reference geometry
• Experience with PDM systems
• Perform Finite Element Analysis as required (using Ansys/Mechanica or Creo Simulate/Solidworks)
• Drive conceptual and detailed design, using 3D solid modeling Pro/E or Creo
• Assembly and part tolerancing including GD&T
• Drive Manufacturing process for releasing parts and assemblies, including product structure for manufacturing and ECO process
• Perform FEA analysis, error budgeting, and hand calculations to support your proposed designs
• Participate in and lead design reviews to acquire a peer-oriented design assessment.

Qualifications Desired
• In-depth understanding of manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, sheet metal forming, and 3D printing
• 1 year’s experience driving requirements specification
• Basic/Intermediate knowledge of precision machine design
• Basic knowledge of vacuum systems a plus
• Solid understanding of statics, mechanics of materials, fluid flow, and heat transfer
• Experience in 3D solid modeling Creo or Solidworks preferred
• Familiar with manufacturing processes including machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding fabrication, and castings
• Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals, including design principles, machine elements, materials, fabrication methods
• Experience/knowledge in several of these areas is desirable: optomechanical systems, vacuum systems, design of inspection equipment or similar instruments, motion controls, electronics, tooling & test fixture design, supplier management, new product introduction, manufacturing support
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
