Job Description

A U.A.W. Local 1279 member who will be utilized as a Manufacturing Engineering Technician. This position is a direct path to a Manufacturing Engineering role. The candidate must have consistent, company-sponsored enrollment to earn a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering. To be considered, candidates would have completed either a High School Diploma or an associate’s degree. The starting pay for this role is $31.62/hr. with a High School diploma and $34.97/hr. for those with an Associate’s degree in an applicable field. Those with a Bachelor’s degree already completed will not be considered.

Under the guidance of Manufacturing Engineers, execute the following as assigned:

Machining

  • Assist with the programming, tooling, fixturing, gaging, and processing of products on standard and CNC equipment
  • Assist with the development of best practices and commonality for CNC machining applications
  • Work as directed with Mfg Engineers and Quality/inspection personnel to assist in the coordination of inspection frequency/requirements
  • Work with fixture design and build specifications
  • Participate as directed in process improvement initiatives

Assembly

  • Assist the manufacturing assembly engineers in processing, developing methods of assembly, and teaching these methods to floor personnel
  • Participate as directed in process improvement initiatives

General

  • Assist Manufacturing Engineers in working with outside vendors on make/buy product problems or studies
  • Perform formal drawing updates for and maintain the hard drawing files for tooling, fixtures, and gages
  • Coordinate and monitor progress as directed with in-house tool room support projects

Position Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Candidate must have consistent enrollment in bachelor’s degree program in Mechanical Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Background in machining processes, tooling, equipment and CNC technology.
  • 5 Years Manual and CNC Machining Experience.
  • Must be able to read machining and assembly prints and correlate them with the Bill of Material and processes.
  • Must have an understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing techniques.
  • Must understand metric measurements and tooling.
  • Must be familiar with, and able to utilize all Microsoft Office Applications with good written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Must be eligible to qualify for a security clearance.
  • Must be able to move freely, with or without reasonable accommodation, throughout a manufacturing environment.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Background in machining processes, tooling, equipment and CNC technology
  • CNC programming experience in Mastercam, M & G Codes
  • Understanding of Lean, Six Sigma and SPC methods
  • An understanding of working with CAD models and programs in Creo and AutoCAD.
  • Project Management experience, have used MS Project in the past and have developed Statement of Work, Work Breakdown Structure, and Schedules
