Position Summary:

We are seeking a hands-on, driven individual to join our team as a Manufacturing Engineer. This position supports lean manufacturing initiatives in our electrical connector and cable assembly operations, with opportunities to gain real-world, hands-on experience in engineering, tooling, and continuous improvement.

Whether you’re just starting your career or still completing your degree, we’re looking for someone passionate about learning and eager to grow in a dynamic manufacturing environment. This role will also serve as the primary backup to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager.

Reports To: Manufacturing Engineering Manager
Location: Lombard, IL
Industry: Electrical Connectors / Custom Cable Assemblies / Over molding

Key Responsibilities:

  • Capture and analyze cycle times across manufacturing processes to identify bottlenecks and improvement opportunities.
  • Lead or assist with lean manufacturing initiatives, including 5S, waste elimination, and process standardization.
  • Lead or support the design of production tooling and fixturing to enable efficient, safe, and repeatable operations.
  • Evaluate tooling needs, organize tooling storage, and collaborate with vendors on tool sourcing.
  • Develop or purchase prototype tooling for production trials or new processes.
  • Document tooling with prints, models, and revisions to ensure traceability.
  • Support prototyping efforts using 3D printing and basic machining (manual and CNC).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on new product introduction (NPI) and process improvement.
  • Support the development of work instructions and standard operating procedures.
  • Participate in Engineering Design Requests (EDRs), New Product Releases (RELs), and Engineering Change Notifications (ECNs).
  • Assist with various manufacturing engineering tasks and act as a backup to the manager.

Preferred Skills & Knowledge (preferred but not required):

  • Familiarity with automation/controls (e.g., PLC basics) is a plus.
  • Experience with data tools like Power BI, Power Query, or SQL is a plus.
  • CAD experience (e.g., SolidWorks) — willing to train the right candidate.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering is preferred but not required.
  • Students currently pursuing an engineering degree or individuals with relevant hands-on experience are encouraged to apply.
  • 0–2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment (especially in connectors, cable assemblies, or over molding).
  • Curiosity, a positive attitude, and a strong desire to learn and grow within the field of manufacturing engineering.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

Salary Range:

  • $45,000 to $75,000.
