Sentien Robotics builds the robotic hardware and software that let research teams and organizations deploy and operate fleets of drones, and quickly iterate on multi-UAS applications.

About the Role

We’re hiring a Junior Mechanical Designer to support our manufacturing team as we scale the Hive platform into low-rate initial production. You’ll split your time between SolidWorks and the production floor, turning designs into documentation and tooling the team can build from, and solving problems alongside technicians and engineers. Reports to [the Head of Manufacturing].

What You’ll Do

  • Create and update SolidWorks parts, assemblies, and drawings for production.
  • Design and build fixtures, jigs, and assembly aids, including 3D printed parts.
  • Write work instructions and maintain BOMs as designs change.
  • Troubleshoot fit and assembly issues on the floor and feed fixes back into the design.
  • Help assemble, inspect, and test builds when the team needs extra hands.

What We’re Looking For

  • Working proficiency in SolidWorks, including drawings.
  • Understanding of tolerances and basic GD&T.
  • Hands-on experience building, fabricating, or assembling things.
  • Willingness to spend a meaningful share of your time on the production floor.
  • Ability to work on-site in San Francisco.

An engineering degree is a plus but not required. Drafting programs, machining, fabrication, and personal projects all count. Experience with fixture design, sheet metal or machined parts, or PDM/BOM systems is helpful.

Growth

This role sits between design and production. As you grow, you can take on larger design ownership and move toward a manufacturing or mechanical engineering role.

Work Environment

Mix of desk work and time in an active production environment. Lifting up to 25 lbs. PPE is required on the floor.
