This role will support Allegion brands in creating products for home and commercial applications. An ideal candidate will possess a strong background in human-centered design, a proven track record of contributing to successful product launches that solve user problems with simplicity, economy, and mindful technology, with an eye for the future and pushing the boundaries of what is possible. This role will contribute to all aspects of project completion and deliverables for assigned projects, while providing input to enhance and innovate the process itself, helping the team to meet the evolving needs of the business.

Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. The company does not intend to provide sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B, TN, etc.) for this employment position.

What You Will Do:

  • Drive independent completion of the industrial design process for projects of any size, typically leading small to medium initiatives, and contributing to large programs.
  • Collaborate with the Primary Research team to make design decisions based on market needs, competitive analysis, and other research outputs. Participate in research projects to scope, execute, and analyze data.
  • Maintain awareness of all active projects for the team, and seek to support and identify risks or opportunities to increase design quality.
  • Contribute to knowledge management of design and style trends, process flows, manufacturing capabilities, business needs, and design philosophies.
  • Develop an evolving mastery of Allegion’s product and service portfolios, and the necessary insight and skills required to support them within the industrial design function. Identify knowledge gaps and suggest solutions.
  • Collaborate with engineering to refine designs for manufacturability and cost-effectiveness.

What you Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial design from an accredited school.
  • 5+ years of experience designing products for manufacture.

  • Depth and breadth of experience and understanding of a wide variety of design principles.
  • Strong communication skills, with experience showcasing the value of industrial design to internal and external partners.
  • Proven ability to produce complex geometry and highly realistic rendering and perform as an individual contributor at every stage of the industrial design process, leveraging a variety of software and hardware tools, as appropriate.
  • Exceptional ability to provide and apply feedback to evolutions in design and offer perspective on risk management and problem solving.
  • Seamless team partnership, with a knack for spotting opportunities for collaboration, navigating debates with cross-functional team members with objectivity and inclusion.

  • CAD experience is required. Creo knowledge is preferred.
