This position is a senior engineering role responsible for leading the development of wire harness systems for hydraulic excavators. The successful candidate will drive the design of high-quality, durable harnesses capable of withstanding the harsh operating conditions of construction machinery. In addition, this role will contribute to the technical growth of the organization by leading complex problem-solving activities, design standardization initiatives, supplier collaboration, and mentoring junior engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of wire harnesses for hydraulic excavators.
  • Design harness routing solutions that withstand vibration, heat, dust, mud, and other harsh operating conditions.
  • Create electrical schematics, wire harness drawings, 3D models, and BOMs using Creo and Creo Schematics.
  • Evaluate installation feasibility and avoid interference with machine structures, hydraulic components, and electrical devices.
  • Select and optimize connectors, protective coverings, clamps, and other harness-related components.
  • Support prototype and pilot machine builds through installation evaluations, root cause investigations, and improvement recommendations.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and internal stakeholders to resolve technical issues and improve product designs.
  • Drive cost reduction, quality improvement, and design standardization activities.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and design reviews for junior engineers.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Experience in electrical wiring harness design, or in related roles, within the construction equipment, automotive, industrial machinery, or similar sectors, or demonstrated equivalent knowledge and skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Business-level English communication skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in Japanese
  • Ability to work onsite five days per week.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to read and create electrical circuit diagrams and wire harness drawings
  • Experience using Creo Cabling and/or Creo Schematics, or equivalent cabling/schematic design skills.
  • Experience with 3D CAD tools such as PTC Creo CATIA or NX, or equivalent 3D CAD skills.
  • Experience supporting prototype builds and production launches, or equivalent product development support experience.
  • Experience collaborating with suppliers on product development activities, or equivalent cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Experience developing design standards and driving design improvement initiatives, or equivalent process improvement experience.
  • Experience leading technical reviews and design assessments, or demonstrated equivalent technical leadership skills.
