Elkay – Lead CAD Designer


The Lead CAD Designer role will report up to the Director of Engineering and will support efficient execution within the product engineering department with a focus on plumbing.  This role will lead the Plumbing Engineering CAD Design team and be responsible for the performance and development of 6-8 direct reports. As the leader of this team you and your team will be responsible for:

  • Day-to-day direction and performance of the CAD team.
  • Robust design assemblies and product design solutions based on technical requirements from engineering.  
  • Leading or developing best practices for product design reviews with full ownership of part and assembly design.
  • Accountable for adherence to Elkay and Industry modeling and drawing standards.
  • Maintains mastery of Elkay and supplier manufacturing and assembly process with in the team
  • Development and execution of a continuous improvement strategy within the team and data management systems.
  • Engineering change process.

Lead CAD Designer Qualifications:

  • Associate degree required as well as product development experience. Bachelor’s Degree within Engineering discipline preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in product development; at least 2 years managing a team of direct reports.
  • Able to professionally represent Elkay when communicating with internal customers while providing direct support to Engineering, Manufacturing & Marketing
  • Highly proficient in SolidWorks, AutoCAD (as a plus)
  • Leads of Parametric design practices
  • Experience with prototyping technology for design model builds is required
  • Experience as Administrator of Product Data Management Systems
  • 4+ years’ experience designing from concept through product launch in one or more of the following areas:
    • Plastic Part Design and Part Finishing
    • Metal Forming and Finishing Process
    • Electric Cable and Harness Modeling
  • Lead design reviews with multiple technical stakeholders; DFM reviews with internal and external suppliers.
  • Experience with statistical tolerance stack up analysis and the application to the design.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt is a plus
  • Creative and entrepreneurial abilities
