As part of the Sensors team based in Burnsville, Minnesota, the Design Engineering Intern will participate in the mechanical design, testing, and troubleshooting of various types of sensors for the aviation industry. Tasks will be part of a team effort that will be focused on the design of new products as well as the support of current manufacturing. This is a great opportunity to learn fundamental principles of the aviation industry, gain experience in multidisciplinary technology development, regulations, and gain experience in the present technical information.

What You Will Do:

  • Assists in developing data and makes layouts, sketches, and notes for design proposals.
  • Participates in the investigation of pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replaceability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost.
  • Assists in designing, developing, and testing metallic or non-metallic structures or materials and their related fabrication processes for use in engineering designs.

What You Will Learn:

  • Learn about designs of major components or major portions of functional systems, technically advanced prototypes, and promotional or specific products using computer design and engineering systems.
  • Gain knowledge in developing and improving products and facilitates in manufacturing operations.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering with strong academic record and interest in circuit design, testing and troubleshooting. Knowledge of analog design is a plus.

  • The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD – 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
  • Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
  • RTX anticipates the application window closing approximately 40 days from the date the notice was posted. However, factors such as candidate flow and business necessity may require RTX to shorten or extend the application window.

  • This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
  • Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products. Must be a commutable distance to Burnsville, MN to work an onsite schedule. This position may be eligible for relocation.
