Digital Design Sculptor position at Ford Automotive

Job Description

The Digital Design Sculptor develops 3D digital models of automotive interiors/exteriors while capturing design intent. Models must be completed with high fidelity in an extremely fast-paced environment. Requires solid leadership qualities; excellent work ethic; strong verbal and written communication skills; positive attitude; approachable demeanor; ability to learn new software applications and processes; the ability to exhibit One Ford Values and mentor other team members.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in digital model builds by determining the best tools and techniques to deliver an accurate execution within studio timing and constraints
  • Collect, coordinate, collaborate and translate technical data to multiple departments and personnel
  • Interface with all levels of Design teams and build relationships to achieve a unified goal
  • Ability to deliver, to prescribed specifications, a finished 3D digital design in Alias Automotive, 3D poly modeling application or any other appropriate digital tool
  • Ability to troubleshoot difficult situations and manage critical timing schedules
  • Adapt to change with minimal resistance, quickly resolve unforeseen elements, be able to develop new skills and adjust to the fast-paced work environment with ever-changing goals
  • Research and develop digital tools and techniques to improve the design process and speed
  • Ability to multi-task and mentor other team members

Basic Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree in Transportation Design, Art or Design
  • 1+ year of experience with digital design
  • Willing to work extended hours including weekends and holidays

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Transportation, Product or Design
  • 3+ years of experience with digital design
  • Aptitude to read prints, engineering sections, hip zones, hardpoints, draft angles, part breakups, die lock conditions, verification points, etc.
  • High level of aptitude and competence of understanding surface development and procedures in all digital modeling techniques
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment
  • Computer skills and functions including Alias Automotive & MS Office (Catia, VRED, 3D Poly modeling tools preferred)
  • High level of problem-solving skills
  • Experienced in digital setups, values, and procedures to deliver surface data with speed and accuracy
  • Experienced in delivering studio and program milestones. (GPDS Pre-PS, thru FC-2, I/O Builds, etc.; including program deliverables, upper management show dates, courtyard reviews, GAR’s, GSDR’s)
