Job Summary
The Design Engineer (Productivity Contract CAD Technician) will support engineering and research teams by developing 3D models, detailed drawings, prototypes, and test components used to improve manufacturing processes in the residential roofing sector.
The role focuses on creating CAD models, assisting in prototype fabrication, and supporting testing activities that enhance product quality and operational productivity.
This position requires strong technical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work safely in laboratory and manufacturing environments.
 
Key Responsibilities
Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all safety procedures in laboratory and manufacturing environments.
  • Identify and correct hazards and unsafe conditions.
  • Maintain compliance with standard safety practices and organizational policies.
  • Apply good housekeeping practices and contribute to a safe work environment.
Design, Drafting & Prototyping
  • Create 3D models and detailed drawings using Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD.
  • Generate accurate models for 3D-printed prototype components.
  • Assist engineers and scientists in building product and process prototypes, assemblies, and test stands.
  • Participate in prototype testing and evaluation under the guidance of engineering staff.
  • Support refinement of existing manufacturing designs and prototype development activities.
Collaboration & Task Execution
  • Work closely with engineers, scientists, and team members to complete project tasks.
  • Perform mechanical assembly work as needed for prototype builds.
  • Execute non-routine tasks while following hazard assessment practices.
  • Maintain consistent communication with project teams to ensure successful outcomes.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate degree required.
  • Hands-on mechanical aptitude and experience working with mechanical equipment.
  • Proficiency using CAD software for 3D modeling and drawing creation (Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, or SolidWorks).
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience in manufacturing or laboratory environments.
  • Project or task management experience.
