Job Description

Moving Picture Company is currently looking for talented Look Development artists with a background creating high-end 3D work to join our creative advertising team in Los Angeles. Candidates should have previous advertising experience in look development, texturing and shading for assets and CG-environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with modelers, lighters and texture artists to create the final look of a CG asset.
  • Ensure proper optimization of texture resolution/format and shader construction.
  • Guide his or her asset through lighting with feedback from supervisors and the lighting team to ensure assets hold up in various lighting scenarios.
  • Provide rough, preliminary composites of renders for review.
  • Develop and deliver renderings of complex, photo-realistic and stylized CG characters/creatures, vehicles, environment assets and effects into shots for animation and VFX advertising projects.
  • Work closely with other artists under tight production schedules.
  • Maintain and evolve the department’s workflows and quality benchmarks in LookDev.
  • Explore and recommend new LookDev techniques and software

Qualifications:

  • Expert knowledge of Maya (Houdini is a plus)
  • Experience texturing and painting assets using Mari and Substance Painter.
  • Solid understanding and production experience with render packages like Arnold, VRay and Mantra.
  • Reasonable knowledge of shader tree construction and math fundamentals.
  • Reasonable knowledge of a VFX lighting production pipeline.
  • Generalist 3D VFX skills are essential.
  • Experience in Linux a plus.
  • Good communication skills to enable you to work well in a team, but also an ability to troubleshoot and solve problems creatively and independently.
