RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

Research Assistant – Florida Institute of Technology, Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering

Advisor: Dr. Youngsik Choi Oct. 2009May 2011

  • Developed a novel analytical model to predict residual stresses in orthogonal cutting process based on machining conditions of a material at micro level.
  •  Hands-on experience with Lathe and CNC machines and advanced level knowledge in applying X-ray diffraction methods and Vickers’s Micro-Hardness machine.
  • Developed an analytical code using MATLAB for predicting the mechanical chip formation forces using fundamental principles of mechanics.
  • Developed a model using slip-line theory in calculating the ploughing forces in the orthogonal cutting process.

Department Grader – Florida Institute of Technology, Department of Mechanical & Aerospace

Aug.2009May 2011

  • Worked as a Grading Assistant for under-graduate courses-Design of Machine Members, Mechanics of Materials and Thermal Engineering.
  • Mentored students in understanding the problems in their Assignments and Exams.

INDUSTRIAL EXPERIENCE

Medium Duty Vehicle Manufacture- Manufacturing Trainee

Ashok Leyland, INDIA. (June 2009- July 2009)

  • Trained in engines manufacturing (H-series engines) and assembly of the Medium Duty Vehicles (MDV).
  • Involved in various aspects of processes such as process planning, metrology, plant engineering, quality control sections and heat treatment.
  • Trained in operations which are performed in all machine shops of Ashok Leyland (like lathe turning, drilling, chamfering, and honing)

Trend Monitoring Analysis of V2500 Aircraft Engine to Detect Pre-mature Defects- Technical Intern

National Aviation Company of India Limited, INDIA (Nov 2008-May 2009)

  • Worked on a novel preventive maintenance technique of a twin-spool V2500 turbo-fan engine used for the A320 aircraft family.
  • Conducted Trend Monitoring Analysis on a V2500 turbofan engine by correlating the engine pressure ratio with the spool speeds and compared the on-flight data with the standard manufacturer test data for detecting possible pre-mature engine failure.
  • Worked on the Engine Health Monitoring software (EHM) by performing critical analysis of the data obtained from the A320 aircraft to avoid pre-mature failure of the engine.
  • Identified the possible failure of specific components inside the engine and suggested remedies to prevent costly engine overhauls.

Brake System of an Aircraft (Anti Skid Brake System) – Student Intern

Air India, INDIA.  (May 2008-Aug 2008)

  •  Trained on the structure and working of the braking system as well as wheel assembly of an aircraft A319/320/321
  • Studied different types of hydraulic brake systems available in the aircrafts (normal and alternative systems).
  •  Learned the functioning of the temperature and cooling systems.
