Job Description

As a member of a design engineering team at Maestro, you will help lead teams to create beautiful, functional, durable, and manufacturable products in many categories for our myriad clients. You will conceive, design, and bring into production products that will re-define markets. You will work closely with many different cross functional teams, clients, and partners including Industrial Design, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing, RF, Reliability, Packaging, Safety, and Marketing.

Core Responsibilities
As a Sr. Product Design Engineer you will own the end-to-end mechanical development and execution of complex products. Team members, internal and external to Maestro, will look to you and your experience for guidance throughout the entire design and execution cycle.

Responsibilities include:
Brainstorming design concepts and executing design concepts in all phases of a development cycle
Bringing a high degree of motivation, curiosity, passion, and creativity to the studio
Generating innovative designs with cross-functional teams
Defining mechanical control outlines and assembly schemes
Generating tooling-ready design files for injection molded, sheetmetal, and cast components
Communicating cross-functionally on design directions and requirements
Identifying and generating tolerance analysis
Using Finite Element Analysis tools to optimize designs of simple structural and thermal systems
Optimizing design and manufacturing processes with external vendors; acting as PD technical liaison among vendors
Managing and tracking multiple priorities within schedule requirements and ability to drive multiple PD engineers and vendors towards common project goals
Prototype bring-up, debug and characterization
Participating in the development of new manufacturing processes
Conducting design reviews and driving file release process
Design validation and characterization from prototype bring-up to product testing
Driving failure analyses and design of experiments (DOEs) to reach design solutions and corrective actions
Interest in traveling ~15%-20% throughout the year

Key Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of hands-on product design experience in consumer electronic products in a high volume production environment
3D CAD experience required, NX or Solidworks preferred
High degree of motivation, curiosity, passion, and creativity
Design intelligence: mechanical intuition, creative problem solving, spatial reasoning, diligence in finding the best solution for each design challenge, attention to detail
Solid Engineering Fundamentals: statics, strength of materials, material science, statistics
Flexible design skills: tolerance analysis, design for assembly/manufacturability, electro-mechanical integration, simple fixture design, design for high volume manufacturing, developing initial product layouts, understanding of Statistical Process Controls (SPC), understanding of metrology (basic knowledge of measurement systems), mechanism design
Experience in the design cycle from concept through manufacturing a plus
Experience designing mechanical components for high volume manufacturing is preferred – specifically injection molded parts, sheet metal components, die-cast and machined parts
Scientific method, experimental process, root cause analysis
Applied knowledge in flex circuits, printed circuit boards, and material science is beneficial
Disciplined in GD&T practices with close attention to datum establishment
Experience with component modules (LCD, batteries, camera modules, etc.) and interconnects (FPC design and ACF bonding), a big plus
Integration of wireless antenna (GSM, GPS, Wifi) into mechanical enclosures, a big plus
Integration of electrical subsystems (LCD, microphone, speaker, receiver, camera)
Experience with wearables design, a plus
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and people skills; ability to interact with management, team members and external vendors
Ability to clearly communicate design ideas, contribute to and lead brainstorms
Teamwork: the candidate must be able to communicate well with cross-functional team members, be able to efficiently collaborate with team members to achieve project goals, and contribute positively to the design and engineering community
BSME or demonstrated equivalent experience
