Armstrong World Industries has a great opportunity for a Senior Industrial Designer at our corporate headquarters in Lancaster, PA within our Building Products division.

Armstrong Commercial Ceilings is looking for an Industrial Designer to support a Strategic Front End Innovation team. This designer will contribute to a variety of programs, from early stage research and ideation, through conceptualization, and all the way to production. This role requires a motivated design thinker that can inspire others, generate new to the world concepts, and then bring them to life by collaborating with cross-functional partners.

To be successful as a key member of this team, you must be a team player, utilize design thinking, have the talent to clearly articulate your ideas through visualizations and mockups, and enjoy collaborating and influencing business partners.

Key responsibilities include:
– Provide design leadership to the Armstrong Ceilings Innovation team.
– Lead in identifying opportunities, framing design challenges, and defining success criteria for innovation projects.
– Actively participate in customer research, benchmarking activities, and ideation sessions.
– Collaborate with internal team members in brainstorming solutions and other design focused activities in support of broader business initiatives.
– Provide creative talent to energize project teams, advocate good design, visualize solutions, and be an enabler of new technologies.
– Develop creative concepts while ensuring solutions are aligned with business strategy, customer insights, and manufacturing capability.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
– A Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design, Architecture, or Mechanical Engineering.
– 3-7 years of design experience including trend research, styling, and mechanical development.
– Passion for integrating design and technology with a desire to experiment and explore new ideas.
– Ability to synthesize customer insights, technology, and design trends into unique and meaningful solutions for the organization.
– Proactive leadership skills and the ability to identify design opportunities that can impact the business.
– Excellent and effective communication skills along with the ability to influence and collaborate with process partners in delivering great design solutions.
– A strong portfolio of diverse work that demonstrates innovative solutions, creative thinking, and attention to detail.
– Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite and parametric 3D CAD software.
– Hands on skills in prototyping and building large scale mockups.

Desired Qualifications:
– Background in architecture preferred.
– Experience using Autodesk Inventor software.
– Experience in both consulting and corporate product design organizations.
– Experience with architect specified installed product.
– Familiarity with architectural and interior design processes and procedures including AutoCAD drawings, BIM, and Revit software.
– Good knowledge of bldg products industry/manufacturing processes including wood processing and metal forming.
