SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Manager, New Product Development will have successful experience in conceptual design, development, and commercialization of products, with proven ability to lead a team of highly skilled Mechanical Engineers in the planning, development, prototyping, documentation, test and qualification of medical device designs for innovative and high-performance solutions. The candidate must have a proven track record of successful product deliverables within a multi-disciplined matrix team environment. In addition to establishing and maintaining the technical competency of the team, this position requires coordination and collaboration of activities with other R&D Managers as well as with Core Team Project Managers. He/she will provide technical opinions in their area of expertise to support development projects and feasibility studies. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing and ensuring consistent project planning, technical development plans, FMEA and Risk Management, and design rigor throughout all projects that is consistent with and in accordance with FDA/QSR for Medical Devices.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Lead a team of highly skilled Mechanical and Biomedical Engineers on high-performance medical device designs from the conceptual phase through product launch.

2. Provide technical, cost (resource, material dollar), and schedule input to Core Team Leads on projects. Participate in system level design analyses.

3. Allocate the necessary resources and skill sets to projects ensuring technical, cost, and schedule requirements are met

4. Ensure design test methodologies and documentation meets internal and external regulatory requirements

5. Active assessment of project and teams’ needs and gaps, and help develop individual development plans for team members.

6. Ensure consistency in design reviews, verification and validation efforts.

7. Active coordination with other R&D teams to ensure expectations are understood and are met.

8. Accountable for the technical completeness of the team’s design output.

9. Foster creativity and innovation in design solutions.

10. Successful product lifecycle experience, from the conceptual stage through product launch and into post-launch support.

11. Solid experience in Product Development Processes. Working knowledge of stage/phase-gate product development processes relating to medical devices a plus.

12. Solid knowledge of Medical Device standards, such as FDA’s QSRs, ISO, IEC etc.

13. Experience with mecanical CAD tools, such as Pro-Engineer/Creo

14. Knowledge of project management techniques such as scheduling, budgeting, and risk management. Experience with MS Project, Gantt charts, and WBS.

15. Proven understanding of business needs, risks and organizational dynamics as well as their implications in developing alternate plans and choices.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

BS or MS degree in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering

Experience:

Minimum of 10 years experience.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

Medical device design experience.

Skills/Competencies:

Design Controls (21 CFR 820, ISO 13485).

Other Skills:

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS/SCOPE:

1. Effective communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills and abilities.

2. Strong written and verbal communication skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Engineering laboratory and office

Travel to 50%
