About the Position:
This is no small task. You will be lead on the engineering of products that will find their way into the homes of hundreds of thousands of people. If you’re driven by innovation & relentless focus on details, we want you at Floyd. You’ll be the core player on a team that is building the future of furniture and shaping the next evolution of American design.

As Product Engineer you’ll be the lead on contributing to the product’s design and finding ways to make them shippable, intuitive, sturdy, & easy-to-put-together! You’ll be working across a number of confidential Floyd R&D projects that will reshape how people consume and use home furnishings. You’ll be the third member of the Floyd Product Studio & work across all verticals of the company—including supply chain and customer experience—as well as directly interface with our manufacturing partners. You’ll also work to ensure that Floyd meets compliance standards, customer expectations, & production cost goals. Beyond that, you’ll have a budget and autonomy to lead the development on projects and define new frontiers for Floyd products—whether it be in materials, manufacturing processes, or technology.

This Might Describe You:
– 5+ years of relevant professional experience
– You’ve been managing, mentoring, and developing exceptional teams for at least 5 years
– Knowledge in manufacturing and lean principles
– A skillset that includes developing 3D engineering drawings, and specifications as part of the product
development process, for prototypes and final products
– Strong background in high volume part design and manufacturing, experience working across a
range of materials, 3D CAD (i.e. Rhino, SolidWorks), engineering drawings, tolerances, and
– Problem solving skills and ability to apply research towards execution
– Eagerness to collaborate closely with our manufacturers through the entire product development
– Solid prioritization skills & ability to execute
– Constantly curious and a relentless approach to learning new things and innovating
– A disrupter, who is hungry to be part of a new movement in design

– Some Things You’ll Do
– Working alongside the co-founder/CEO and product team to bring products/concept to market
– Test & research new methods and materials for production; nothing is off limits
– Floyd is heavily multi-disciplinary, so you’ll work across many verticals of the company
– Coach and mentor engineering tasks and skills to others
– Recommend solutions or alternatives to how we’re currently doing things
– Making sure Floyd is operating well above the compliance standards
– Documentation and communication of design history, engineering change orders, etc to
multifunctional team and third party suppliers
– Complete sketches, models, detailed engineering analyses, and studies that support the
development of new parts and products
– Identify potential problems & come up with a resolution
– Work with supply chain lead and suppliers to identify the best means of production
