Description

Product Designer, Whirlpool Corporation

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist in establishing basic project design objectives and the selection of design approaches.
  • Develop design concepts from verbal, written, or physical descriptions and/or specifications while applying Design for Manufacture and Design for Assembly concepts. Includes completing design layouts of components, assemblies, and products.
  • Perform tolerance analysis and participate in design review activities.
  • Prepare and revise robust solid models and detail drawings of complex components and assemblies from design layouts, marked prints, sketches, and verbal instructions.
  • Prepare Engineering Notices and structure bills of material for assemblies.
  • Participate in the construction of prototype parts and assemblies as well as other experimental and pre-production types of activities.
  • Work with internal and external tool makers, fabricators, and process partners to optimize designs and processes.
  • Manage Pro/E data within Windchill/PDMLink to promote completed work to Engineering Notice and Bill of Material systems.

Function Overview

Use CAD to produce robust 3D models. Assist engineers to get prototypes created. Work with multiple functions within the organization to design and engineer refrigeration products that will lead in the market place.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • A 4-year college degree in applicable field
  • 5+ years experience or a minimum of a high school diploma and 12+ years experience.

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience using PTC Creo Parametric
  • Experience using PTC Windchill Product Lifecycle management (PLM)
  • GD&T proficiency
  • Experience with manufacturing processes and component design for these processes
  • Understanding of top-down design techniques
  • Experience using Google products
  • Experience using Microsoft Office products
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to manage time and work effectively while being self-motivated
  • Ability to adapt as designs and process improve over time
  • Ability to conceive and visualize ideas and concepts from verbal and written instructions; and the ability to articulate ideas and concepts to others.
  • Ability to work effectively with others in a cross functional organization.
  • Work experience in designing the following component types: injection, blow molded, thermo formed and extruded plastic parts. Knowledge of gas assist and two-shot part design.
  • Knowledge of metal component processes including: laser and water jet cutting, progressive stamping and bending, press die forming, and extruding.
  • Knowledge of Pro/E Solid modeling and Sheet Metal is required; experience with Pro Cable may be beneficial.
  • Knowledge of Top Down design, master assemblies, and skeletons
