In this role, you will work in our Clinton, MA, studio with dual responsibilities. As a member of our engineering team, you’ll help our clients realize their product ambitions by effectively developing compelling product solutions. As our local IT expert, you’ll maintain local systems and infrastructure in accordance with our corporate standards.

In an engineering capacity, you’ll engage on multidisciplined team efforts to mature products from initial concept through testing, validation, and launch. In an IT capacity, you’ll perform upkeep and ongoing preventative maintenance on our current and future IT systems, as well as troubleshoot and resolve local day-to-day issues. This position reports directly to the Director of Engineering in Clinton and is a highly visible and dynamic position whose focus will be on Radius site-specific and global organizational initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Mechanical Engineering:

Actively participate in team ideation sessions with our clients and interdisciplinary project team of industrial designers, engineers, and user researchers to multiple out-of-the-box solutions to complex problems
Apply technical analysis and critical thinking to assess feasibility and desirability of concepts
Apply theoretical knowledge of design and electro-mechanical engineering principles using kinematics and structural and thermal/fluid analysis calculations
Apply engineering design principles and skills to help bring clean sheet ideas into reality
Actively interpret direction of project team leads to ensure alignment
Complete allocated tasks efficiently, supporting on-time delivery
Develop feasible and manufacturable mechanical solutions at the component/system-assembly level of design and detail these with CAD models and drawings using Pro/Engineer or SolidWorks
Build breadboard mock ups and proof-of-principle models, support prototype build efforts, and evaluate designs for improved functionality, cost, and manufacturability
Implement design solutions that drive lean manufacturing process across a mix of high- and low-volume products in a variety of industries
Help create technical presentations to articulate the project team’s work to our clients

IT:

Maintain a working knowledge of all the systems within the site, and how those systems interrelate with our corporate partner’s systems
Maintain accurate inventory of software to ensure that approved and required software is available and licenses are maintained in accordance to their license agreements
Manage software updates and upgrades as required by the team. Stay up to date on new versions of software and manage the obsolescence of ageing software versions. Provide a point of view for software versions Radius will offer for our clients
Maintain accurate inventory of hardware and make recommendations for upgrade/replacement in accordance with Jabil and global standards, and other risks
Ensure that warranties and maintenance contracts are in place and up to date for critical equipment
Maintain and manage internet connectivity through our telecommunications partners
For onboarding of new hires and contractors, have the responsibility of setting up the appropriate hardware/software, network, e-mail, and other credentials in place at starting date
Conduct onboarding and ongoing training sessions to ensure that employees are informed of available software and are abreast of the basic use of the software
Upon the off boarding of employees (voluntary or involuntary termination), ensure that system access and network credentials are discontinued, email is properly routed to managers, and work to reclaim equipment and close accounts
Ensure that existing public area IT equipment is in normal working order, including up-to-date software
In the event of a network or service interruption, notify Jabil or 3rd party providers as needed, and investigate and inform local teams of status
Prioritize and provide real-time application support for team members

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:

BS, mechanical engineering or equivalent
Bachelor of information technology, computer science, computer engineering, IT certificate, or equivalent experience

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

At least 3 years of design engineering experience
At least 3 years of professional IT administration experience
Direct experience in the product development consulting business is a plus

ESSENTIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

This dual role requires an individual who demonstrates a strong foundation in mechanical engineering as well as IT administration and customer support, with a polished, not over-bearing, delivery style. More specifically, the candidate will have the following skills:

A strong understanding of product development processes and design execution. Experience participating in the creative direction of projects and collaborating across disciplines
Firm understanding of user needs, technologies, design controls, and manufacturing methods
Excellent portfolio and highly developed product development skills, including 3D modeling experience using Pro-Engineer and/or SolidWorks
Experience designing for consumer technology, medical, life-sciences, or consumer packaging industries is a plus
Highly developed general hardware, software, and data networking skills
Excellent hands-on skills for PCs (Windows-based systems), Active Directory, Windows Server, and backup and archiving systems (e.g., Commvault)
Motivated self-starter who takes initiative, with strong work ethic
Adaptable, able to respond to mission-critical situations, and focused on finding a workable solution to every problem
Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects in parallel
Logical and methodical, results-driven
Ability to “see the big picture” when meeting customer needs
Strong team player, excelling in a highly collaborative and team-oriented environment
Highly effective interpersonal and relationship building skills, with excellent command of spoken and written communication
