This Design / Development Associate Engineer for 3D Printing reports to the Lead Engineer of the Rapid Additive Prototyping Innovative Design Center (RAPID). RAPID is a part of the Materials Evaluation Labs Fabrication Group within the Mechanical Engineering Laboratories. The lab operates as a key section of our Mechanical Engineering Directorate of the Engineering and Technology organization of Lockheed Martin’s Missiles and Fire Control business area.

The primary responsibility for this role is to research, design, and develop additively manufactured aerospace-grade products in support of internal customers for research and development projects and contracted programs. This person will be required to perform all functions associated with the additive manufacturing process which includes, but is not limited to, machine operation, laser scanning, hands-on post-processing, specification compliance, completeness, accuracy, design soundness, interpretation of ANSI Y14.5 drawing and GD&T standards, fabrication, assembly, installation, customer interface, and data management. Candidate must coordinate and work technical hands-on duties and activities concurrently while maintaining and programing 3D printing machines. Projects are reviewed and verified with the requester and scheduled in an environment where there are often competing and conflicting needs to be resolved. When necessary, new processes are evaluated and standard processes developed. The resulting hardware is reviewed as required with the lead engineer and/or group manager, and then communicated to the customer. The engineer will work with the RAPID lab team members, providing technical assistance to develop products, and coordinating other lab and program groups as required; including Non-Destructive Evaluation, Engineering Fabrication Development, Mechanical Engineering Machine Shop, and Product Development Model Shop.

West Palm Beach is about 2.5 hours to the south and Jacksonville is about 2 hours to the northeast. Atlanta, GA is 6 hours to the northwest.

Basic Qualifications
• BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or other closely related technical field), or equivalent professional experience.
• 1-3 years’ experience in mechanical design with Pro/E/CREO CAD models.
• Basic knowledge / understanding of GD&T (Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing).
• Knowledge of additive manufacturing and laser scanning technologies.
• Nominal skill level in all Microsoft Office products.
• Ability to coordinate and work multiple technical activities concurrently.
• Excellent verbal & written communication skills.
• Understand importance of product detail, work schedules and task tracking/reporting.
• Able to plan and prioritize work appropriate to schedule.

Desired skills
• Design skills for creating 3D printed parts
• Prior knowledge and operation of additive manufacturing machines, materials, and software’s, especially polymer based.
• Familiarity with hand tools and machinery
• Experience with Magics software
• Proficient with reverse engineering using laser scanning and GeoMagics software
