Job Description
Mechanical Designer is responsible for completing transformer layouts for designs of varying complexity; this may also include detailing and or checking other mechanical designers work. He or she will review projects assigned to them comparing customer specifications to other design data noting any inconsistencies or special requirements. Designers work closely with the Design Engineer (Project Lead), Controls Designer, and other engineering support to ensure that our customer specifications and due dates are met. Mechanical Designers will be expected to utilize any and all programs to function effectively. These computer programs include but are not limited to: Pro\Engineer – Microsoft Word – Microsoft Access – Microsoft Excel – Microsoft PowerPoint – Microsoft OneNote–SAP, etc. Mechanical Designers will be expected to meet with customers, suppliers, and our other facilities to discuss designs or new products effectively, this may occasionally require the need to travel.


Complete mechanical design of transformers including internal or external layout of components and accessories based on documentation provided in project design folder, standard practices, and/or from technical advisories.
Calculate dimensions, allowances, and specifications per standard procedures or general design knowledge of shop capabilities when standard procedures do not exist.
Provide technical support and training of others when required.
Responsible for directing or executing corrective action when shop problems are encountered. Consult with shop and QA personnel on interferences or interpretation of engineering information.
Assist on development projects as requested by supervisor. This may also include completion of standard processes or practices and computer programs.
Recommend and/or develop new procedures to improve the efficiency of the design and/or detailing process.
Provide support to Quote Designers, such as bid or preliminary outlines and mechanical optimization.


Assignments are performed under minimum supervision with assistance as required for design questions or technical problems.
Duties require an understanding of shop methods, industry standards, and drafting procedures.

Required Education / Experience

Associate’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering Drafting and Design or approved equivalent
