The Industrial Designer/Senior Designer is a key member of the Liberty Design Studio and (depending on the specific role) is responsible for using research, sketching, rendering, prototyping, CAD; participating in concept development, delivering world-class design solutions and creative design; refinement of every aspect of the products’ function and form – from research and planning through traditional and rapid prototyping, then through to production. Each role works independently, as well as collaboratively with engineering, the NC Marketing team and external clients.

We offer our extensive line of hardware products through retailers (including The Home Depot, Lowe’s, Menards, Target and Walmart), online (including Amazon.com), kitchen and bath design showrooms, builder and hospitality, and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) distribution channels across the country.

A key component of Liberty’s value proposition is the Liberty Design Studio. The Liberty Design Studio develops design programs and solutions that enable Liberty to simplify category management, inspire our customers’ consumers, deliver operational excellence and out-perform our customers’ expectations.

The Industrial Designer/Senior Designer is a key member of the Liberty Design Studio and (depending on the specific role) is responsible for using research, sketching, rendering, prototyping, CAD; participating in concept development, delivering world-class design solutions and creative design; refinement of every aspect of the products’ function and form – from research and planning through traditional and rapid prototyping, then through to production. Each role works independently, as well as collaboratively with engineering, the NC Marketing team and external clients.

Designers also travel to design-related shows and events domestically and abroad, and go out into the city for inspiration and retail literacy. Occasionally they will collaborate with other MASCO companies like Delta and Kraftmaid.

Responsibilities Include:

Develop (alone or with a team of designers) a series of compelling design solutions around the opportunities or gaps that have the potential to add significant value to LHMC’s pipeline.

Create product solutions to stated challenges by analyzing and translating consumer needs into tangible features and benefits.

Develop and show concepts through sketching, 3D modeling and prototyping.

Design using Pro E, Creo and other 3D packages and Adobe Creative Suite.

Participate or lead research, prototyping and design efforts from concept to production.

Develop compelling designs.

Understand target consumers.

Research and articulate style and trends as it translates to product design.

Set and maintain design intent both visually and functionally.

Work cross-functionally throughout the design process. Build relationships with Marketing, develop criteria for new programs, align on brand positioning, and ensure brand consistency.

Some internal and external client interactions – from presentation preparation to delivery.

Innovate and push new ideas forward.

Provides design leadership and execution on projects.

The ideal candidate will possess:

• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design
• 3 to 5 years of relevant design experience in consumer products; preferably within the home decorative
durables category.
• Demonstrated capability in ProE/ CREO as the main platform for CAD delivery.
• Strong competence in developing innovative design options around opportunities and gaps.
• Good technical and marketing acumen needed to know if and when tradeoffs should be made.
• Willingness to learn and use low fidelity and rapid prototyping capabilities.
• Some experience planning, managing and executing design projects with a certain level of complexity.
• Skilled at building relationships with key stakeholders across disciplines and throughout the organization.
• Ability to promote design, lead, and influence at multiple levels of the organization.
• Ability to thrive in an environment where ambiguity, risk and constrained resources are normal part
of the environment.
