Industrial Designer Responsibilities:

The Industrial Designer will build fitness equipment and individual components using CAD tools including SolidWorks, Rhino and Keyshot.

They will concept sketch using conventional pen/paper or digital tools, for overall fitness equipment products and individual components.

They will define and support the expression of the Precor brand by creating supporting 2D files for fitness equipment, including console keypanels and peripheral labels.

The Industrial Designer will actively inform the design group and product development group of design and style trends in fitness, wellness, and other related industries.

They will design CMF (Color, Materials, Finish) concepts for fitness equipment, building a skill competency by evaluating samples and the manufacturing implications/constraints.

They will conduct user research both in informal “fly on the wall” observation scenarios and investigative, human factors studies, to inform and inspire the design team and create concepts.

Lastly, they will perform other duties as assigned.

The Industrial Designer is responsible for the creation of concepts, models, prototypes, and production data for fitness equipment at Precor. Using hand and digital sketching, physical models, experience prototypes, and 2D/3D CAD tools, the Industrial Designer balances the requirements of manufacturing with human factors in an aesthetically compelling product. The initial responsibilities in this position will be to support the other senior Designers, with a transition into design ownership over time.

 

Required Experience:

  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job, will be considered.
  • B.A., B.S., B.I.D. degree in Industrial Design.
  • 3-5 years of post-university work experience; manufacturing industry experience a plus.
  • 3-5 years of experience with SolidWorks and Keyshot as primary 3D content creation tools.
  • 3-5 years of experience with Adobe CC software, most importantly Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat.
  • Demonstrable experience with manufacturing production processes including injection molding, welding, stamping, extrusions, and metal forming.
  • Experience with user research, fabrication shop experience, interaction experience prototyping, electronic prototyping a plus.
  • Ability to apply excellent sketching/drawing skills as a means of problem solving and communication.
