Full-Time Harness Wiring Design Engineer (CREO)

Job Description

This position is for a harness wiring design engineer for various Spacecraft programs. The harness design engineer will be responsible for the electrical design, mechanical design, engineering, test and installation support of wiring harness for flight and/or ground support. The individual will work with program engineers to define the design for the wiring harnesses, document the design, and coordinate with manufacturing of the harnesses with production.

Selected candidate will be performing electrical/mechanical engineering design tasks relating to wire harness/cable design and interconnecting of electronic equipment. Areas of responsibilities include: detailed component Performance Specification (PS) and Interface Control Drawing (ICD) interpretation, including assembly manufacturing drawings, parts lists, cable design, and engineering change support. Support program planning from a cost, technical and schedule perspective, conceptual design, trade studies, drawing generation and documentation release, and testing requirements.

Candidate will also interface with other disciplines, such as Systems, Electrical/Mechanical/RF Design, Manufacturing Engineering and Quality Assurance to ensure program requirements are being met. Candidate must provide support to both in-house and outside cable manufacture and fabrication.

Candidate should be able to assess design requirements and generate a design and documentation using Zuken, Mentor Graphics, I-DEAS, CREO Cabling or similar.

 

Job Duties:

  1. The harness design engineer will be responsible for the electrical design, mechanical design, engineering, test and installation support of wiring harness for flight and ground support, products will include connector selection, wire gauge sizing,  Wire Connection Lists and Harness Assembly Drawings and Parts Lists. 
  2. Support program planning from a cost, technical and schedule perspective, conceptual design, trade studies, drawing generation and documentation release, and testing requirements.
  3. The harness engineer will be responsible for hardware through the full product life cycle (design, fabrication, debug, integration test and maintenance support).
  4. Interact with program or technical leads for development and prioritization of tasks.

Qualifications:

  1. BS degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Industrial Engineering or equivalent
  2. Candidate must be familiar with design of electrical interconnects for spacecraft or airborne equipment
  3. Must have experience working with equipment performance specs, wire connection lists (WCL’s), schematics, wire gauge sizing, connector selection and related cabling and harnessing documentation
  4. Strong oral and written communication skills
  5. Able to demonstrate problem solving skills
  6. Thorough understanding of manufacturing project planning, scheduling, resource management, materials ordering, inventory management, and quality functions
  7. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as both a team leader and a team member
  8. Ability to successfully multitask, supporting multiple programs
  9. Must be well organized, team oriented, have high initiative, work well with others, and communicate effectively with all levels within the organization
  10. Familiarity with MIL standards and requirements, AS9100 or ISO 9001 experience
  11. Must have a positive attitude and be able to plan and prioritize work effort and quickly respond to issues and questions 
  12. Must be able to develop effective working relationships with engineering and program management
  13. Proficiency in either CREO Cabling, Zuken, Mentor Graphics or equivalent Harness design model based engineering tools
