Job Summary

GA’s Electromagnetic Systems (EMS) Group focuses on the military and commercial applications of advanced electromagnetic technologies, including power generation and distribution, magnetic levitation, and systems design and engineering. The EMS Group supports government customers, which include the Department of Defense, Department of Energy and the Department of Transportation.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Designer in our EMS group.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

Responsible for providing technical solutions for a wide range of difficult design problems as well as providing leadership in developing effective thorough practicable and innovative design solutions for a wide range of very complex products and components of products utilizing 3D CAD technical engineering software.

Responsible for following EMS processes and procedures IAW ISO 9000 requirements.

Responsible for mentoring junior designers in good design practices and drawing principles.

Demonstrate a high working knowledge of the application of engineering design concepts and drawing principles, including ASME Y14.5 and ASME Y14.100.

Demonstrate the ability to produce a high rate of design/drawings free from errors.

Demonstrate the ability to work under general supervision with minimal guidance and show initiative when appropriate.

Demonstrate the ability to work within a manufacturing atmosphere when called upon.

Demonstrate the ability to work within DoD contract when called upon.
Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Job Qualifications

Typically requires an Associates degree or a certificate from a recognized organization indicating completion of training in ProEngineer, CATIA or IDEAS design software plus seventeen or more years of progressive experience utilizing CAD software with at least nine of those years spent utilizing ProEngineer, CATIA, IDEAS or related engineering design software. Additional education may be substituted in lieu of work experience.
Solidworks experience (desired).
Creo Parametric 2 experience (desired).
Experience with AutoCAD 2010 (desired).
Experience with cable harness, piping or sheet metal design (desired).
Additional experience utilizing CAD software may be substituted in lieu of education.

Must have a complete understanding of engineering design concepts and principles and possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly, applying them accurately throughout an evolving environment.

Must have a complete understanding of ASME Y14.5 2009 and possess a working knowledge in the use of GD&T

Must be very familiar with the Global Drawing Requirements Manual (DRM) and ASME Y14.100.

Must be able to work independently and as part of a team and be able to work extended hours as required.

Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and, determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems. Must have excellent communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team; able to perform very complex engineering design tasks; and, provide direction.
