Job Description:

Position Summary

As a Designer on the Standby generator team, you will work with senior designers and engineers to design complex components, assemblies, tooling, and fixturing for the manufacturing and servicing of commercial generators. You will be responsible for preparing layouts and designs as well as building and testing prototypes. Our Designers execute on new product development, continuous improvement, and cost reduction projects; and support our Production, Testing and Field Service teams.

Job Responsibilities

Design complex components, tooling, assemblies and concepts
Prepare layouts and designs from data and specifications
Research and process ECNs from beginning to implementation
Detail drawings of complicated parts and assemblies (e.g. sheet metal enclosures, wire harnesses etc.)
Redesign for functional or manufacturing improvements and cost reductions
Conduct cross-functional design reviews to gather feedback for design improvements
Create and maintain bills of material in SAP
Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested or required

Job Skills Requirements

Visual acuity and design techniques to produce complete and workable 3D layouts for new designs
Ability to calculate dimensions and specify allowances and tolerances in accord with standard practices
Ability to complete required tolerance studies of complexity consistent with level of design work assigned
Proficient in math, including trigonometry, and working knowledge of geometric tolerancing and gaging
Ability to plan effectively for the timely completion of scheduled work
Working knowledge of the physical properties of materials and property enhancers (heat treat, nitriding, etc) and the relative cost of materials
Broad knowledge of most manufacturing processes (stamping, die casting, plastics, etc.) and assembly techniques
Broad understanding of standards and application of same in an engineering environment (ANSI, ASME, SAE)
Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to deal with a varied workforce and changing conditions
Experience with Creo modeling software, AutoCAD and Teamcenter PLM a plus
Experience with liquid-cooled engines or generators a plus

Educational Requirements

High school diploma with courses in mechanical drawing, science and math (including trigonometry)
Associate’s degree in mechanical design or four years of equivalent design experience

Experience Requirements

A minimum of two years relevant work experience
