You are skilled CAD technician looking to work in a multi-disciplinary team that supports the development of great product. You get excited making the new and different while working with Design Engineers and Industrial Designers. Most importantly you thrive on creating highly detailed drawings and models and articulate the results clearly both written and verbally.

A lot about the job

The CAD Technician at YETI will create engineered files in both 2D and 3D with input from Design Engineers, Project Engineers and Industrial Designers. They will Maintain existing files and manage product data. They will be the expert in dimensioning and tolerance at YETI and the master of all product data.

Key Interfaces

Design Engineering, Project Engineering, Industrial Design, Sourcing and Suppliers


Create and modify Solidworks models
Research the standards and codes for drawings related to various manufacturing sectors
Review engineering drawings prior to the release.
Develop accurate part drawings, assembly drawings, details and Bills of Material, etc.
Collaborate with engineers to research drawings, models and sketches to develop detailed dimensioned drawings.
Maintain the consistency of part drawings and files at YETI

The computer aided design (CAD) technician works with the Design Engineers, Project Engineers and Industrial Designers to create a detailed engineering models of products. They use computer design programs to sketch the object from multiple perspectives and include relevant details such as materials, dimensions, and fasteners. Once these digital models are complete, CAD technicians show proto-type builders, designers, and manufacturers how to construct the project in an effective way. The CAD technician’s efforts also provide a visual representation of a project others involved.
CAD technicians work across a number of specific fields, with individual technicians sometimes either working in one specific field or multiple fields at once. At YETI there will be drawings for Plastic products, Metallic designs and soft goods.

Skill Set Requirements

Deep knowledge and skill with SOLIDWORKS is required along with a high mechanical aptitude.
CAD technicians must have a solid grasp of math and scientific concepts, strong computer skills, an eye for detail, and strong knowledge of the components needed to create real-world versions of their virtual designs.
Ability to determine scale and perform mathematical calculations, recommend materials to used and knowledge of geometric tolerance to create better requirements for manufacturers.
Additionally, it is to their benefit to have good interpersonal skills to ensure good communication with designers, engineers, and other colleagues.

Educational and Previous Experience Requirements

An associate’s degree in a technical field
Minimum 3 years’ experience as a CAD technician using SolidWorks in a product development setting
Experience creating engineering drawings, parts and assemblies of precision plastic components
Experience designing to and preparing BOM’s
Knowledge of basic metallurgy, fabrication process and tolerance stack up
Attention to detail and superior organizational skills and a willingness to learn
Previous experience with PDM or PLM software
Maintaining CAD libraries, databases and cross platform information company wide
