Job Description

 General Purpose:
CAD Designer-Product Development-Creo Parametric Surfacing  –  Responsible for supporting Product Development by working in conjunction with
Engineers on piece part and assembly design through the use of CAD solid modeling and programming.

Essential Functions:

  • Creates accurate engineering specification drawings and models to assist Engineering with minimal direction.
  • Participates within the project and work team environments.
  • Communicates frequently with Engineers and Managers on assigned project teams.
  • Participates in internal and external CAD User Groups.
  • Manages all CAD activities within a project.
  • Sets an example for others in the attitude exhibited and the high standard in the quantity and quality of the work completed.
  • Works to improve one’s technical and organizational skills through continuing educational, training, and learning opportunities.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.
  • Influences strategic CAD initiatives with an emphasis on either Solid Surface or Programmatic Modeling.
  • Mentors new talent by teaching CAD and PDM knowledge and skills.
  • Assists in development and presentation of next generation Creo Parametric techniques and processes.
  • Coordinates all CAD-related deliverables on major scope Design and Development (D&D) initiatives.
  • Develops and contributes to new processes and techniques.
  • Creates complex assemblies utilizing advanced techniques to layout multiple variations of component and product layout interfaces to support assigned projects.
  • Provides complete support and pioneers additional functionality with Herman Miller Windchill tools.
  • Provides complete support of Source Tree PDM activities for maintaining Smart Assembly Code.
  • Manages Master Model and Top Down Design aspects of assigned projects.
  • Creates Engineering Specification CAD Models and Drawing per Herman Miller and industry standards.
  • Assists in developing next generation Engineering Specification standards and guidelines.
  • Assists Engineers in part/assembly design on assigned projects.
  • Problem solves and pioneers next level CAD and Engineering tools and processes.
  • Communicates frequently and effectively with all internal and external business partners using verbal and written tools and technology tools.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Applied Arts preferred or equivalent education and professional experience.
  • Minimum four years of professional CAD experience with experience leading large CAD projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively use office automation, communication, software, and tools currently used in the Herman Miller office environment with a basic understanding of the current CAD Systems used within the functional area.
  • Exhibits high personal performance standards, the desire and ability to continuously learn, and must be results-oriented.
  • Proven organizational and time management skills; must be self-motivated and able to work and learn independently.
  • Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills, including professional presentation skills.
  • Proven competency in producing Product Development models and assemblies.
  • Exhibits ability to work cooperatively both in a team environment and independently.
  • Must be open to new ideas and technologies that enable Drafters to work and communicate in new ways.
  • Must be an assertive, self-starter with the self-confidence and ability to represent Herman Miller in a professional manner in order to gain a high level of confidence from internal and external contacts.
  • Must be willing to take ownership efficiently working to drive tasks to completion.
  • Ability to understand the corporation’s values, goals, and the objectives along with key financial drivers.
  • Must be able to perform all essential job functions with or without accommodations.
  • Expert ability to function in Creo Parametric which includes all non-seating component parts, assembly and product models, instances and drawings.
  • Advanced ability to function in Creo Parametric Surfacing to support Seating.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and modify Class A surfaces.
  • Advanced ability in Herman Miller ProProgram to manipulate sub or product assemblies.
  • Advanced ability to modify ProProgram components and associated databases for work surface or tile maintenance or part creation.
  • Advanced ability to build productivity applications within Smart Assembly in support of efficiencies in creating and modifying Engineering Specifications.
  • Working ability to build Product applications within Smart Assembly in support of complete Product Engineering specifications.
  • Understanding of basic Manufacturing, Engineering, and Industrial Design acumens in creating and revising Engineering specifications.
