Associate Product Engineer-Riddell Sports

Job Summary

Reporting to the Riddell R&D Manager, the Associate Product Engineer Football is responsible for supporting the design and development of innovative, world-class football protection products from ideation through prototyping and testing, to production. The ideal candidate should have proven experience in developing innovative football protection concepts in a cross functional team. The Associate Product Engineer Football will assist with product validation and testing including Lab Testing as well as Field Testing.

Essential Functions:

Establish creative concepts for opportunities not yet identified in the field
Create sketches, drawings and specifications to translate ideas into models and working prototypes
Test functional prototypes to verify design intent through virtual or physical methods
Assist the Test Lab with various testing procedures such as NOCSAE Testing, Taber Testing, Tensile Testing, Compression-Deflection Testing, among others.
Document and maintain Lab Test results on an ongoing basis.
Research competitive products as needed to keep abreast of competitors methods, material, and manufacturing abilities.
Create and maintain design documentation such as engineering drawings, product and material specifications, bill of materials, etc. to assure quality in product designs
Collaborate with the factory in the development and launch of new products with a focus on design for lean manufacturing and robust design methodologies.
Produce accurate and complete document packages for all projects and products, to ensure that design intent is carried out to expectations.
Collaborate with other departments both internally and externally to provide new solutions and ideas to improve product quality, product performance, and improve manufacturing processes.

Education and Training:

BS Mechanical Engineering or equivalent work experience.
Has demonstrated high proficiency in parametric modeling of complex parts with Solidworks or Creo, and creation and manipulation of advanced surfaces.
Experience in designing protection products a plus.
Direct experience with Lab equipment and testing protocols related to Football.
Computer experience and knowledge of Microsoft applications required (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Ability to work in a cross-functional team environment.
Mechanical Aptitude – ability to perform professional mechanical engineering assignments of a wide variety and complexity under general direction

Effective Communication – Clear communication to internal and external customers in multiple formats
Project Management – strong organizational skills, acute attention to detail to ensure timely delivery of projects.
