Advisory Surface Engineer –

Role & Team Description:

As a member of a fast-paced development team, you use your creativity and diverse range of engineering experience to explore solutions to a variety of engineering problems. As an Advanced Surface Design engineer, you participate in the design, assembly, and prototyping of new concepts. You will work in an Industrial Design studio and product development environment and collaborate with designers and engineering teams in order to see your products go from concept to production.

In the role of an Advanced Surface Design engineer you will capture the product design through building the master model using your expert skills designing Class-A surface geometry. You will work on product development starting at product definition, through the concept phase and into mass production, you will be working closely with cross-functional teams including Industrial Design, Internal Model Shop team, Mechanical and Electrical engineering, Multiple Simulation Testing (audio/tactile/camera/drop-impact), Packaging and Marketing to produce compelling designs for consumer delight.

You will help build cross-functional relationships and mentor more junior members on the team. Your team will be looking to you for help with brainstorming solution concepts, trouble shooting design issues, as well as assisting team members with your mastery of PTC Creo3.0 model building during the design and development process.


• Collaborate cross-functionally for initial concept development and generate models or prototypes to evaluate concepts and narrow solution path
• Develop and maintain a detailed 3D master model database of the production design definition
• Define initial part split outs and overall assembly
• Review and make modifications to the product design based on simulation testing, engineering team recommendations and external supplier feedback
• Travel internationally as required
• Familiarity with plastic part design, compression and injection molding
• Familiarity with stamping, casting, machining, MIM, and other forms of metal fabrication
• An appreciation and sensitivity to balancing industrial design requirements with product engineering capabilities

Minimum qualifications:

• BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Design BA/BS
• 3+ years of experience in product design
• Experience building class-A surface master models using PTC Creo 3.0
• Experience working within Windchill PDM/PLM environment
• Experience with mechanical engineering principles
• Demonstrate creative problem solving ability­
• Good sense of production methods ­
• Excellent skill and ability to visualize concepts in Rhino, Pro/e or Alias

-Excellent written, listening and verbal communication skills
-Must work effectively with a variety of team members
-Ability to work independently as well as within a team environment
-Involvement in local and global design community
-Experience in consumer electronics and mobile industry is a plus
